The Alter Torkel in Jenins, a 17th-century wine press amid the vineyards of the Bündner Herrschaft, is today the 'Huus vum Bündner Wii' – the house of Graubünden wine. Here the wine comes first: around 21 Graubünden wines are served by the glass, the list runs to more than 1,500 entries, and head chef David Esser builds his seasonal dishes around them – from saddle of venison to tomahawk steak from a butcher in the Prättigau. In summer you sit on the terrace looking across the vines into the Rhine Valley. The Michelin Guide lists the restaurant and Falstaff awards it 93 points – a worthwhile stop on the way home, ideally with a booking.
