A valley full of highlights

The Upper Engadine is not only nature but also a stage for some of the best-known events in the Alps. Spread across the whole year, sporting events, culture and tradition follow one another. Here is an overview of the highlights – with Bever as a quiet base right in the middle. (Please check the current dates on the official organiser sites, as they can vary from year to year.)

Winter – sport and glamour on the ice

Winter is the most eventful time. On the frozen Lake St. Moritz the spectacular White Turf takes place, an international horse race on snow with social flair, traditionally on several Sundays in February. Add to that polo tournaments, cricket and further ice events on the lake. The highlight for sports enthusiasts is the Engadin Ski Marathon in March, one of the largest cross-country races in the world, whose route runs right past Bever.

Spring and summer – culture and music

In summer the Festival da Jazz St. Moritz shapes the region with concerts in an intimate atmosphere – from world stars to insider tips. Add to that classical concerts, open airs and atmospheric village festivals. There is plenty of sport at various mountain running, biking and cycling events that use the valley as a backdrop, such as races around the passes and mountain ranges. Culinary and cultural occasions also enliven the warm season.

Autumn – pleasure and tradition

Autumn is marked by pleasure and tradition. Culinary weeks, game season in the restaurants and folk occasions in the villages invite discovery, while the larches turn the valley golden. It is the quieter, often especially atmospheric season – ideal for anyone seeking culture and pleasure without the crowds.

Year-round – markets and traditions

Throughout the year there are weekly markets, craft and traditional occasions in the Engadine villages. They offer an authentic insight into the local culture away from the big events – with regional produce, crafts and living traditions. Those seeking the real Engadine often find it at these smaller occasions.
